This is a collection of letters written by both Elizabeth and Henry which have been used to create a biography of their lives. They were in close proximity to many significant events from the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776 to the Yellow Fever Epidemic of 1793. Sally kept a detailed diary, especially after Henry was incarcerated in Virginia. They each passed away in 1807 and 1809 respectively.

The diary of Elizabeth Drinker spans from 1758 to shortly before her death in November 1807. The diary provides a first hand account of the events to which she witnessed, from the historically significant to the personal. At times, the historic and the personal overlap strongly. Elizabeth Drinker’s diary provides a unique perspective on the events that made the United States.
