Henry Drinker (Will Phelan)

I, Henry Drinker, am a Philadelphian, Quaker, businessman, husband and father to nine children. I am part owner of the import-export firm James and Drinker. Quakers are not just makers of oatmeal. We are a Christian group devoted to peace and doctrine of the Inner Light which is symbolic of Christ working within our souls. We don’t have ministers or formal worship. I owned 500,000 acres, mostly in Pennsylvania and was imprisoned in Virginia during ’77 for deciding not to fight for the Continental Army due to my pacifist beliefs. I was released in ’78 and led several associations which advocated abolition of slaves to simply teaching philosophy. Henry passed away in 1809 and has been brought back to life by Will Phelan (sounds like failin’). Will is a Senior history major at Loyola University. He intends to graduate this May and work in the consulting or finance industry. He enjoys comedy, tequila and playing soccer, preferably all at the same time.

Sarah Sandwith Drinker Downing (Harry McNally)

Sarah Sandwith Drinker Downing (1761-1807) was the daughter of noted diarist Elizabeth Sandwith Drinker and Henry Drinker.  Born to a Philadelphia Quaker household, Sarah married Jacob Downing in 1787.  Sarah is being represented by Harry McNally, a Shepherd University senior history major who is neither a Quaker nor a woman.

I am Henry Drinkers wife and colleague in the quaker movement, or society of friends as some call it. Since I am so well educated and Henry is so successful, I am able to devote my time to writing my diary. I started the diary in 1758 and plan to keep writing for the rest of my life. Hopefully one day, my diary will be an important historical reference to the lives of us Philadelphians as we approach and endure the turn of the 19 century.
